My UL Rod

I love fishing with ultra light gear. It's superb for trout fishing in the lakes back home in Norway, and it's the only one I have cought anything worth mentioning here in Thailand.

Mine is a Shimano Beastmaster 165UL, and it's got an Okuma Force 515FE reel attached. And with size 10 braided line on it you can get some fairly fun sized fish on it without worrying about breaking the line.

The rod is only 165cm long. Some say thats just to short, but for me it's perfect. A flick of the wrist and the lure lands excactly where I want it.

I use tiny 3 gram Blue Fox spinners with it (size "0"). And the trout loves them. I cought a nice fighting striped snakehead and a good Hampala barb on it at Cheui Lan lake just north of Phuket on it last year.

A short rod like this is super when you have to sneak around trees and bushes. And it does not take much to master it. Some say such a short rod will not throw very far and is hard to control direction.

But for me it works very nice. And it's always the rod I will revert to when all elese fails. It's simply fun to fish with it, and you don't need to catch giants with it to have a nice fight with the fish.

So what are you using?
